VeChain (VET), the leading enterprise blockchain platform, continues to showcase its real-world use cases in the supply chain sector. This time, it’s proving to be one of the greenest in the blockchain industry through ocean cleaning.
According to VeChain Foundation on Twitter, ReaSea Project, a Danish company created to remove plastics from oceans and rivers, has confirmed that VeChain blockchain was used to securely collect, record, and monitor 305,239.62 kg (672,938.17 lbs) of plastic waste data.
VeChain Foundation tweeted, “305,239.62 kg of plastic waste from oceans and rivers are verified to be removed by Resea Project using VeChain. VeChain was used to collect, record, and monitor all the data securely. We strive to create real value using blockchain technology.”

According to ReaSea Project, over 15 million plastic bottles have been stopped from polluting oceans within the space of 4 months with the help of the movement supporting the community-driven solution. This has also improved the income of the cleanup team and their respective families in Indonesia.

ReaSea Project noted:
“With the blockchain platform from VeChain Tech used to collect, record, and monitor collection data, we ensure that all data is stored securely, time-stamped, and immutable. The certification from DNV provides independent proof of our progress and traceability of the total collection process.
“When it comes to social and environmental responsibility, consumers are looking for brands to show them, not just tell them, what they are doing. By providing companies with proof of claims related to making oceans and rivers cleaner from plastic waste, they can join our mission with confidence.”
VeChain Powers ReSea Project in Collaboration with DNVGL
On 22nd February 2021, it was announced and reported by Heral Sheets that VeChain will power ReSea Project in collaboration with DNV GL to trace and document its ocean cleanup solution.
Back then, the report stated that the involvement of DNV GL in the project is to introduce transparency using the VeChain blockchain solution.
DNVGL announced “Another win for oceans & rivers as Resea Project becomes the 2nd organisation certified to our Chain of Custody Standard for plastic recovered from the hydrosphere. Bringing transparency to the hard work of these initiatives is key to success.”
