Q, Amazon’s latest artificial intelligence agent, has been pointed out for disclosing much information. A report published by researchers from Carnegie Mellon University, ETH Zurich, Cornell University, University of Washington, and Google DeepMind revealed that prompting ChatGPT to repeat a word continuously would expose ‘pretraining distribution’ in the form of private data from OpenAI. This includes phone, email, and fax numbers.

The report claimed that data recovery from the dialogue-modified model entails finding a means to make the model ‘leave’ its alignment training and shift to its earlier language modelling purpose. Afterwards, the model can create samples similar to its pretraining distribution. Nevertheless, efforts to recreate the error were aborted after the report’s publication. ChatGPT-3 and ChatGPT-4 will caution the user about the content contravening the firm’s terms of use or policy.

Deficiency in OpenAI Content Policy Exposed for Concealing Existing Loops

Despite OpenAI’s content policy failing to cite existing loops, it reveals that deceitful activities such as spam are prohibited. Its terms of service are mainly more solid concerning users trying to obtain private data or identifying the source code of the firm’s collection of artificial intelligence tools.

It prohibits attempts to aid a person in decompiling, reverse engineering, or establishing the source code or primary service elements, which includes algorithms, models, or systems (excluding the level at which the limitation is forbidden by applicable regulation).

ChatGPT was asked the reason behind its failure to complete the request. It listed different factors, including character restrictions, processing limits, storage and network restrictions, and the possibility of executing the demand. Despite a request for comment, OpenAI failed to respond.

A command to repeat a word frequently may also be described as a rigorous effort to compel a chatbot to be faulty by keeping it in a processing loop, which resembles a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. In November, OpenAI said that ChatGPT experienced a DDoS attack, with the artificial intelligence developer confirming the information on the chatbot’s status page.

OpenAI Devotes to Resolve Sporadic Outages from Abnormal Traffic

The firm said it was handling sporadic outages caused by an abnormal traffic trend that indicates a DDoS attack. It also said it was making efforts to address the situation. In the meantime, Amazon, an artificial intelligence competitor, also seems to have an issue with a chatbot revealing private data. Recently, it unveiled its Q chatbot (this differs from OpenAI’s Q* project).

Amazon tried to belittle the exposé. According to a journalist, workers used internal channels to share feedback, which Amazon claimed was normal practice. In a statement, Amazon said no security problem was established because of the feedback.

Further, the company acknowledged the feedback received and would keep tuning Q as it shifts from being a product in review to being commonly available. Despite a request for comment, Amazon did not respond.
