The creator of a peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol (IPFS), Juan Benet, accused the founder of Tron (TRX), who doubles as the CEO of BitTorrent (BTT), Justin Sun, for copying his company’s papers, code, and logo.
This accusation was made known as soon as Justin Sun aired the rebranding of the BitTorrent File System (BTFS) logo, which was done as a necessary means to pass the message and aims of BTFS across to the community in a better way.
However, Justin Sun swiftly disproved the allegation, taunted the intention of Juan Benet, and called him a scammer that is ready to scam his investors.
The allegation raised against Justin also called the attention of many notable crypto community members, including the co-founder of Ethereum (ETH) Vitalik Buterin, who called out Justin Sun’s dictatorship at every slightest opportunity.
Details of the Accusation
Juan Benet said::
It’s not enough to fork all our code, rebrand it and lie its theirs; copy paste random chunks of our papers, and defraud their investors with a nonsensical mishmash. Tron also can’t even think of an original logo
It’s really sad— BitTorrent used to be great tech — our generation grew up admiring it and the team that put it together. Such a shame to see this great name put through this kind of embarrassment.
I wonder what original BT people remain there — I can’t fathom any of the original p2p builders would put up with this crap…
If you are sticking there trying to save what’s left of the BT legacy— maybe consider joining legitimate p2p projects, like us, WebTorrent, DAT, SSB, ETH and so many more
Justin Sun Responds to the Accusation
Justin Sun responded to the accusation by asking Juan Benet if he owns Hexagon shape. He then asked him to reexamine his ego.
Justin Sun responded thus:
Seriously? Do you own the Hexagon shape? You need to reexamine your ego bro. A shame that IPFS hasn’t delivered on filecoin system in 3 years & BTFS/#BTT have been running smoothly. You’re a vaporware scamming your investors w/ concept for a long time. Shame on you!
You’re the one who copy/paste from BitTorrent’s technology & we didn’t say anything. We believe in unity instead of accusing each other. You stand on your morale high ground accusing others who has worked hard & delivered, do you feel cold up there? What have you done?
Vitalik Buterin Reacts to the Allegation
The co-founder of Ethereum (ETH) Vitalik Buterin, who has consistently attempted to get on Justin Sun’s nerves, also jumped at the thread of tweets to exhibit his discontentment about the allegation.
In his response, he felt sorry for Juan Benet, stating that he’s just fallen into the net of Justin Sun’s dictatorship.
Vitalik Buterin said:
This tweet is honestly painful to read. It’s like looking at a zombie: the account *looks like* something you’ve grown up with and known and loved for 15 years, but underneath it’s just, well, now it’s just another appendage of the Sun dictatorship
