Nvidia and the National Science Foundation collaborated to unveil the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource pilot to promote responsible artificial intelligence discovery and innovation.

Nvidia, a major producer of artificial intelligence (AI) chips, and the US National Science Foundation (NSF) revealed a new collaboration to bolster a new artificial intelligence research initiative.

Nvidia and NSF Team Up for AI Development

The National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot aims to expand access to the tools required for ‘responsible artificial intelligence uncovering and innovation.’ The technology company has pledged to contribute $30M over the next two years.

Nvidia intends to acquire perspectives from researchers utilizing its platform to promote the technology’s efficacy. This will happen as it contributes to NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and NVIDIA DGX Cloud AI.

NAIRR has ten more partners across the United States government. They include the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and others.

According to the NSF’s director, Sethuraman Panchanathan, the partnerships on the NAIRR pilot indicate the ‘urgency’ of creating such resources for the ‘future of artificial intelligence in the United States.’ Investing in artificial intelligence via the NAIRR pilot enables the US to release discoveries and strengthen its international competitiveness.

Nvidia Seek to Improve Efficiency of AI

Katie Antypas, the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure at the NSF head, revealed that NAIRR’s vision will ensure access to data, software, computing, and models by communities and researchers.

The NAIRR pilot’s unveiling corresponds to the objectives of the Biden administration’s executive order unveiled in October last year. In this case, the NSF was instructed to reveal a pilot for NAIRR within 90 days.

NSF told a media resource about its priority to back research that promotes secure, safe, and trustworthy artificial intelligence. This entails ‘strategies for artificial intelligence, testing, authentication, and assessment.

It also involves enhancing a model performance’s reliability and precision and promoting the capability to guarantee intended model behaviour.’ The NAIRR pilot will ensure opportunities to embrace artificial intelligence research outside adequately-resourced higher learning institutions and private sector labs.

Benefits of AI

The pilot will also back data and computing resources for classrooms in higher learning institutions. This happens amid Nvidia’s announcement of a new collaboration with Equinix, a data centre operator, on January 24 to offer supercomputing systems to the company’s corporate customers.

According to Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief and founder, generative artificial intelligence is ‘changing all sectors.’ He said enterprises could currently own NVIDIA AI software and computing, coupled with Equinix management’s operational efficacy, in several global data centres.

Equinox is based in California and is a significant leader in its share of international colocation data centers. It owns 248 data centers across 31 nations in five continents.
