The film production firm, Unrealistic Ideas, owned by Mark Wahlberg, a Hollywood star, and Fortune, wants to create a new documentary about crypto. The documentary will provide a comprehensive examination of the relationship between Sam Bankman-Fried, the discredited co-founder of FTX, and Changpeng Zhao “CZ,” CEO of Binance.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the documentary will highlight the impact of both CEOs’ backgrounds on their rise to fame.
Bankman-Fried and Zhao’s Public Beef Laid Bare
According to reports, Wahlberg will partner with other producers such as Archie Gips and Stephen Levinson from Unrealistic and Jeff Roberts and Alysson Shontell from Fortune. Meanwhile, Zhao and most FTX execs have agreed to feature in the documentary.
Shontell, while speaking to Hollywood Reporter, said, “The complex relationship between Bankman-Fried and Zhao is documented on Twitter and in articles. However, this documentary will provide a comprehensive and personal insight into the entire FTX story.”
Moreover, Bankman-Fried publicly accused Zhao of being the cause of Alameda Research’s insolvency. Although the Binance CEO wanted to rescue the firm, he later bailed out last minute, citing fund mismanagement.
However, the Binance CEO denied the allegations. He also expressed disapproval regarding Bankman-Fried’s political lobbying that came at the expense of other crypto companies.
Unfortunately, Bankman-Fried is facing several charges in the US, including money laundering, wire fraud, and breaking securities law. The Bahamas Police arrested him in December after FTX’s bankruptcy filing in November.
The former crypto billionaire is currently under house arrest after the court granted his $250 million bond bail. The Twitter community criticized the documentary with Solana NFT market comparing it to the criticized Transformers movie starring Wahlberg.
Some suggested that, instead of a documentary, they should make a movie featuring the game League of Legends. Bankman-Fried himself admitted to playing the video game in multiple conferences and interviews.
Crypto Receives Huge Attention From the Movie Industry
Despite the negativity, crypto is gradually accumulating an impressive collection of captivating stories. This includes the rise and fall of the first darknet marketplace powered by BTC, mind-boggling frauds, and founding tales with characters influencing decentralized currency.
Two years ago, Lionsgate released a movie about the ascent and downfall of the Silk Road. Silk Road was an illicit online marketplace that accepted BTC for illegal goods and services.
The founder, Ross Ulbricht, is now serving life imprisonment. Last year, Netflix approved a series about the alleged laundering of nearly 120,000 BTC by Heather Morgan and Ilya Liechtenstein.
Despite being under house arrest, reports allege that Morgan recently took on a new business development and marketing job at an unknown technology company. Furthermore, Amazon Prime has joined forces with ABGO production studio to create a series about the downfall of FTX.
ABGO’s founders stated that the captivating blend of drugs, technology, criminal activity, and a mysterious founder warrants further examination.
