Minecraft, a game run by community members, is now letting users earn BTC for participating, thanks to a Lightning Network integration facilitated by crypto payment company Zebedee. Players can transfer their rewards to Zabedee’s crypto wallet ZBD, which operates on both Android and iOS operating systems.

It is worth highlighting that the Zebedee integration is not official and hasn’t been endorsed by Mojang, the Minecraft developer.

Minecraft is a Bitcoin-themed game that features BTC mining rigs as part of the gameplay elements. To enhance the chances of winning BTC, players are required to boost their mining hash rate. However, you should not expect to win life-changing rewards for playing Minecraft.

Zebedee Announces Bitcoin Rewards For Minecraft Players

As per Zebedee’s announcement, the total weekly rewards are about 1 million Satoshis (SATs), which is just $300 per week. For beginners, Sats are the smallest unit of a BTC. Each Bitcoin has 100 million SATs.

To be fair, most of the existing games that offer players crypto rewards for participating distribute only a few tokens as earnings.

This is not the first time Zebedee has integrated Lightning Network into a game to enable Bitcoin rewards. In 2021, the company partnered with the developer of the popular game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to make it possible for gamers to receive BTC winnings.

Will Microsoft Block NFT and Crypto Integrations From Minecraft?

Along with Bitcoin integrations, Minecraft has previously crossed paths with NFTs. However, last year, Microsoft announced plans to ban all NFT integrations from Minecraft and its servers, arguing that they were exposing players to significant risks. But a year later, the tech giant has not implemented the NFT ban yet.

Despite the NFT ban not being enforced, a number of projects have either changed course or shut down. NFT worlds, for example, the project that used to sell NFTs for a Minecraft server, decided to develop its own game that looks similar to Minecraft.

In the Microsoft announcement regarding the NFT ban, the company also said it will consider banning “other blockchain technologies” from Minecraft. That means there is a possibility crypto integration into the popular game will soon be blocked.
