The coalition seeks to bolster economic links and ensure that artificial intelligence deployment is secure, transparent, and trustworthy.
Nigeria and the US will hold talks concerning the digital economy, upcoming technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) advancements to evaluate possible partnership opportunities.
US and Nigeria Develop AI Partnership
The information was revealed by Mr. Arthur Brown, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy, during the closing ceremony of a Workshop on National Artificial Intelligence in Abuja.
Brown noted that within two weeks, senior US government executives would assemble in Abuja for a conference planned by the United States-Nigeria Bi-National Commission.
Offering more information concerning the forthcoming meeting, Brown claimed that the U.S. seeks to leverage the momentum created by a four-day workshop by planning an artificial intelligence meeting in Lagos.
US-Nigeria Partnership to Bolster Economic Links
The partnership seeks to bolster economic links and promote secure, safe, transparent, and responsible deployment of artificial intelligence. Via its diverse agencies, Brown highlighted the U.S.’s preparedness to partner with Nigeria as equitable partners to promote different initiatives, including infrastructure, development, research, and innovation.
Brown praised Nigeria for approving a major United Nations resolution on artificial intelligence and committed to the current collaboration between Nigeria and the United States government concerning the economy.
AI Potential to Yield $15.7 Trillion
Dr Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy, addressed the workshop’s conclusion and stressed the significance of African leaders and governments taking decisive intervention to back their strategies and aspirations.
A study by PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed AI’s potential to contribute $15.7T to the international economy by 2030. Nearly 3T is linked to improved productivity, while $9.1T is linked to novel goods and services.
Tijani spoke about the expected job creation and revenue generation by stressing that instead of prioritizing income, Nigeria must concentrate on creating effective governance for artificial intelligence, acknowledging it as a vital tool to boost productivity across sectors.
Four-Day AI Workshop Towards Developing Collaborative Framework
The Ministry, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) planned a four-day AI workshop to develop a collaborative framework for executing artificial intelligence in the nation.
The workshop resulted in the unveiling of Nigeria’s first Multilingual large language model (LLM) as the nation pushes to acquire a leadership post in AI development in Africa.
In August last year, the Nigerian government invited experts of Nigerian heritage and internationally famous experts who have worked in the Nigerian market to partner in preparing its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
