Seychelles-based crypto exchange OKX acknowledged the intermittent outage citing Alibaba Cloud encountered failure in its Hong Kong Zone. The update conveyed by OKX on December 18 attributed service disruption to the hardware failure that hit Alibaba’s HK data centre.

The server’s anomaly on Saturday night at 2200hrs European time froze the OKX exchange leaving users unable to execute transactions. Most users expressed discomfort over the security of their digital wealth following the abrupt transaction halt.

OKX Outage Causes Widespread Uncertainty

OKX exchange calmed users’ fears of being caught up in the server’s anomaly. The Seychelles-based exchange team ruled out losses that occurred during the outage. The update conveyed via OKX quelled fears of users losing their funds. In particular, the in-house assessment by the OKX team affirmed the amount processed as zero.

The Twitter update by OKX revealed its development team was in contact with the Alibaba Cloud’s crew to resolve the server’s anomaly. Three hours after the apologetic Tweet, OKX announced the resumption of the cloud service. Nevertheless, the update only assured the users’ access to the pre-open procedure. The statement clarified that users could cancel the stuck transactions and initiate post-only orders. Moreover, OKX notified the customers they could leverage the restored cloud service to manage margins.

Incomplete Cloud Service Restoration

While OKX lamented that the restoration was incomplete, it promised to inform the users. Nevertheless, OKX failed to indicate the timing of the announcement.

OKX echoed Alibaba Cloud’s statement confirming restoring cloud services though it confessed their instability. Furthermore. OKX promised the users to conduct the post-mortem to avoid such instances in future.

Elsewhere, Avalanche blockchain is yet to comment on the outage despite the December 2 announcement of partnering with Alibaba Cloud to power its Node-as-a-Service initiatives. Avalanche explained that the integration would facilitate developers in launching validator nodes. Avalanche’s partnership with Alibaba Cloud aims to power the Asia infrastructure.

Avalanche used the address to demonstrate its robust blockchain hosting over 1200 validators while facilitating over 2 million transactions.

Despite its active role in Alibaba Cloud services, it has yet to comment on the outage locking its partner’s server in Hong Kong Zone.
