The latest report has revealed that Robert Kennedy Jr, a 2024 presidential candidate, owns several BTC, just a few weeks after claiming he doesn’t hold the digital asset. In May, Kennedy Jr. delivered a speech at the Bitcoin 2023 Conference held in Miami, in which he praised BTC and emphasized the need to nurture and protect the network.
He also announced that he will be accepting Bitcoin donations during his campaign. Kennedy Jr. then went on to say he wasn’t a Bitcoin investor and that no one should take his endorsement of the crypto asset as investment advice.
But a financial disclosure shared by media house CNBC indicates that the family of the presidential hopeful owns Bitcoin worth $250,000, stored in an unnamed crypto exchange. The document, however, doesn’t show when the investment was made but states that Kennedy Jr.’s family has so far generated only $200 in profits from its BTC holding.
Following the release of the report, one of Kennedy Jr.’s representatives told CNBC that the Bitcoin was owned by the presidential candidate’s wife, Cheryl Hines. However, Kennedy Jr.’s campaign manager Dennis Kucinich clarified later that the BTC belonged to the husband. Kucinich also said the purchase was made a few days after Kennedy Jr. spoke at the Bitcoin conference.
Is There Another Crypto-Friendly Presidential Candidate?
Kennedy Jr. is not the only presidential candidate who has been supporting Bitcoin. Republican presidential hopeful Ron Desantis is also trying to win the support of the crypto community as he has been vocal about his disapproval of a US central bank digital currency, claiming that the government will use it to discourage decentralized cryptocurrencies because it has failed to control them.
Kennedy Jr., on the other hand, has been tweeting regularly to show his support for BTC. He recently said he would ensure that the Americans’ right to own and use Bitcoin is never violated once he becomes the president.
Which Crypto Player Supports Kennedy Jr.?
Several prominent crypto players are already showing their support for Kennedy.Jr’s presidential bid. One of them is Block CEO, Jack Dorsey. In June, he said he was optimistic that Kennedy Jr. would defeat Donald Trump or DeSantis in next year’s election.
