Ledger, the famous hardware wallet manufacturer, has released its first-ever blockchain game, Cometh Battle, in its Ledger Live software application. Cometh Battle is a public beta digital card game set in a sci-fi universe.

It uses the Ethereum scaling network, Polygon, to provide its free-to-play experience. Players can purchase, vend, or rent their Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) as in-game assets.

Additionally, it features Player-vs-Player (PVP) matches, similar to the crypto game Hearthstone by Activision Blizzard. Users get 40 cards and a spaceship NFT at no cost when they begin playing. Then they can swap or improve these beginner assets through crafting.

The significance of Ledger’s integration of a Web3 game into their app is notable because it is not limited to Ledger hardware owners. Anyone can download the Ledger application and access it through Ledger Live by opening an account on its associated blockchain platform, Polygon.

The game project’s CEO Jerome de Tychey believes that having the game on Ledger Live will offer players a secure and satisfying adventure.

An Avenue To Reach More Crypto Game Players

According to Tychey, this partnership aims to create a more secure environment for users to join Web3 and enjoy the gaming experience without being concerned about potential hacks. Meanwhile, Ledger’s VP of consumer engineering, Carl Anderson, commented that the firm hopes to utilize its platform as a hub for better gaming experiences.

“This is the inaugural game on Ledger Live, and while there currently are no other games in the works, we anticipate introducing additional games in the future,” Anderson said. Ledger Live is one of the most widely used cryptocurrency wallets.

This launch will further solidify its place in the crypto industry. If Ledger Lives becomes a successful platform for Web3 games, crypto game developers will have another avenue to gain more users.

Recall that Apple has stringent new regulations on NFTs, and Steam outrightly refuses NFTs and crypto game projects on its platform. It remains to be seen how successful this game will be. Still, the launch of Cometh Battle could be a significant step towards developing a thriving destination for Web3 games.

With more game developers turning towards blockchain gaming, Ledger Live may provide them with another avenue to reach players.
