Instagram Unveils AI-Powered Background Editing
In an announcement, Meta said Backdrop goes past basic tweaks and color filters. On Threads, Meta’s competitor to Twitter, Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta’s generative AI lead, claimed that using Backdrop, one can rethink the background of their image through a prompt and some taps, for instance, ‘surrounded by puppies,’ or ‘chased by dinosaurs’ to generate a completely new image for their story.
Al-Dahle also explained that to get started, one should tap the button for a backdrop at the top of a new Story. After posting, a ‘Try it’ sticker appears when the generated image is shared, which makes it easier for friends to utilize Backdrop for the first time. This tool is created for simplicity, with users being presented with several recommended prompts, for instance, ‘on a red carpet’ alongside the alternative to create their special prompts.
Meta seems to be utilizing artificial intelligence as a creativity and confidence booster for the individual posting a photo. However, it motivates others to attempt the feature, increasing engagement and utilization.
Social Platforms Infusing AI into Applications
Social platforms are incorporating artificial intelligence into their applications at a high rate. Lately, Snapchat unveiled similar artificial intelligence-enhanced functionalities. This is an additional chip in Meta’s bet on artificial intelligence as a business strategy.
Mark Zuckerberg’s pivot from the metaverse to artificial intelligence has been evidenced by significant involvement in the open-source community and the introduction of artificial intelligence features in Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
Meta recently unveiled the ‘Imagine with Meta,’ an artificial intelligence image generator that utilizes EMU and is presented as a separate website.
Zuckerberg also announced Meta’s expansion of Thread to other European nations, another crucial breakthrough in its international strategy. Expanding Threads and artificial intelligence-enhanced features across Meta platforms demonstrate the firm’s vision for an artificial intelligence-driven and internationally linked future.
The vision appears more thrilling compared to a metaverse with partially-legged cartoon avatars.
