Gnosis is expanding its portfolio of services by unveiling the Gnosis Card that one can settle payments at any Visa-acceptable location. Additionally, it allows other wallets to replicate the design.

Gnosis Card Availability Restricted to European Economic Bloc

Gnosis has revealed that it is launching Gnosis Card, a debit card that will use Gnosis Pay, its new payment network.

Initially, the product will only be available in the European Union, the European Economic Area nations, and the United Kingdom. It will be expanded to Brazil, Singapore, Mexico, Hong Kong, and the United States in the fourth quarter.

Gnosis Visa Debit Card Acceptable to Settle Real-World Payments

To make real-world payments, it will be mandatory for Gnosis card users to link their wallets to their funds. Payments can be made at any Visa-acceptable location and will involve the direct transfer of funds from one’s wallet instead of pre-paying the card.

The co-founder of Gnosis Chain and Gnosis Pay, Friederike Ernst, revealed that this differs from Web2 payment platforms since one will still maintain the custody of their funds.

Gnosis Self-Custodial Card Differs From Web3-based Payment Cards

Further, the lack of a prepaid feature differentiates it from Web3 payment cards. In case one owns a Binance card, they can load their account with crypto and use it from the balance. One can tap their card to spend from their self-custodial wallet via Gnosis Pay.

Following its unveiling, users will be in a position to spend EURe on the card. EURe refers to a stablecoin attached to the Euro. The Gnosis Pay team intends to include DAI, the decentralized stablecoin of MakerDAO.

Exhaustion of EURe Balances Prompts EURe Decline

Ernst revealed that payment will be declined if one is out of EURe. In the future, a feature will be included to ask users if they intend to swap their tokens. This will apply in situations where they are out of EURe but have USDC.

In addition to the Gnosis Chain, Gnosis Pay utilizes a custom-built layer-2 protocol to permit sufficient network scaling. In addition, the protocol protects the KYT and KYC information amassed through Fractal.

Account Abstraction Concealing Technical Processes

Gnosis leveraging Safe to conceal numerous technical intricacies from users through account abstraction. An example of a way in which account abstraction is utilized here is by removing the need for a seed phrase and, in its place, signing into the web app using one’s wallet.

Gnosis Pay will just have a physical card and web application following its release, but a mobile application will be launched later. It will cost 30 EURe for parties as fee for every successful signup.

Expanding Scope to Other Wallets

Gnosis Pay is going to offer APIs and the tooling needed to permit the rest of the DAOs, NFT collectives, and other wallets to offer products resembling Gnosis cards.

Ernst claimed that it was a challenge on the regulatory and tech side. Hence, they are permitting other wallets to utilize this infrastructure for card issuance. Somewhat, the Gnosis card is the first client.

The Gnosis Pay team has held conversations with wallets willing to utilize their restructure to provide similar products that the Gnosis Gard offers.

Multiple Wallets Express Interest in Joining Gnosis Pay

Ernst also stated that they are signing letters of intent with several wallets, and all those contacted have expressed interest. Zerion, Bankless, and 1Inch are likely to be the first wallets. According to Gnosis, the extensive crypto payment cards and platforms link on-chain and off-chain experiences.

He explained that improving the links’ load bearing and traffic bearing will be crucial for the ecosystem. If one considers the financial point of view, payments are the most commonly utilized, which happens daily. Hence, the ability to do that in a Web3 native manner is massive.
