The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin has denied the rumor that says the much-awaited Ethereum 2.0 will go live officially in July 2020.
This came about in a series of tweets generated via an article published by a major crypto news outlet, The Block, some hours ago, titled, “Vitalik Buterin says ETH 2.0 is still on track, touting crucial multi-client testnet”.
Also, there are many headlines claiming that Vitalik Buterin confirmed that the official launch of Ethereum 2.0 will take place in July 2020.
Ethereum Community Members Challenge Vitalik Buterin for Putting Out Actual Date
In the thread of tweets, Vitalik Buterin was challenged by tons of supposed Ethereum community members, for going on stage to reveal a particular date for the official launch of ETH 2.0.
Marco Levarato, a software engineer, doubted the feasibility of the launch of Ethereum 2.0 in July 2020, as purportedly confirmed by Buterin.
He wrote,
“It’s impossible that will go live in July, there isn’t an official multi-client testnet and this “coming soon” testnet needs 2 months of flawless run. We are in the mid of May.”
He furthered that Buterin has in the past made lots of inaccurate time predictions. He said mid-July is two months from now, and there is no official testnet at the moment, believing that the 2-month time interval mentioned by Buterin is likely impossible.”
“Vitalik in the past made a very long list of wrong time predictions, btw it’s simple math 2 months from now it’s the mid of July, but there isn’t the official testnet right now (btw if there is a major bug the timer it’s resetted and a testnet it’s used to find bugs),” Marco Levarato added.

Another user concurred with Marco Levarato’s assertion, stating that going on stages to put out dates is unhelpful. However, he said he doesn’t think Vitalik Buterin specifically said July.
He wrote:
“What Marco said. It’s simple math. The final spec is not implemented in any client and we didn’t launch a coordinated testnet yet.
Going on stages or panels and putting out dates is not helpful at all. I don’t think Vitalik said July. But I didn’t see the talk.”
Vitalik Buterin Denies the Rumor Regarding the Launch of ETH 2.0
The co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), Vitalik Buterin, also joined the conversation to debunk the widespread rumor regarding the official launch of ETH 2.0 in July 2020.
“Yeah I did not say July. Perhaps the question contained the word July but I did not hear July when it was asked,” Vitalik Buterin responded.
