The creators of Ethereum scaling solution ZkSync have begun moves to create an Ethereum layer 3 that it calls “Opportunity.”
The Introduction Of A Third Layer To Explore A Better Infrastructure As A IaaS
Ethereum technology scaling protocol ZkSync’s creator Matter Labs has notified that it is developing a third layer chain mostly referred to as the Layer 3 chain.
The major objective of this product, which is still in its preliminary stage, is the introduction of enhanced scalability for ZkSync digital ledger infrastructure.
Matter Lab had initially disclosed its recent operation to develop the L3 in the early period of October and had given it the name “Pathfinder.” However, the project’s name has been changed to “Opportunity.”
Opportunity will be crafted as a supplementary off-blockchain data layer on ZkSync’s preceding scaling solution’s (Layer 2) central network.
As an added development to ZkSync, the third layer is anticipated to regulate Ethereum’s transaction speed and the price of gas.
Matter Lab also mentioned that ZkSync’s Ethereum Digital Machine (EVM)-suitable L3 prototype will become a reality pretty soon before the wrap of the first half of 2023.
Matter Labs Not The Only Company With The L3 Development Idea
Matter Labs had recently disclosed that its newest “Layer 3” development that it is currently working on would hazksyncve its prototype ready in the first quarter of next year. The news followed the introduction of the protocol’s ZkSync 2.0 which is named “baby alpha.”
To clarify, Starkware cryptography software firm was the first to contemplate the idea of a third layer development.
According to the publication on the firm’s website, Layer 2 enhances transaction speed with a limited gas fee at an impressive rate. Also, L2 maintains the advantages attached to decentralization, reason and composability, the publication added.
However, certain apps may require precise modifications that may be well fixed in a different layer, the publication explained.
The publication also highlighted the better control feature as an added justification for L3 development.
